Grimentz-30 min drive away
The best thing about staying in Vercorin is that you are in a ski station but you are not forced to stay in just one ski station. Grimentz is my favourite, Mark’s favourite is Vercorin because he is 9 years old and he knows every slope there and Pascal’s is St Luc. At Grimentz I love the restaurants. The photos show the best chicken nuggets and fries and there is another one L'Etable du Marais does the best Rosti and Croute au fromage.
Sion-a 20 Minute drive away
There are good restaurants in Sion which we would strongly recommend you reserve even in the winter. Au Cheval Blanc with a seafood menu which is hard to get in Switzerland like moules au bouchot and they also do meat from Val D’herens. Then there is Brasserie Du Grand-Pont for an interesting menu of meats not to be missed. We go there at least once when we are in Sion. Sion is also we get the supermarkets to stock up for your stay. There is a fantastic cheese shop Fromagerie de la Grenet in a beautiful old building. Sion even in the winter is worth a visit. One more thing to do is a wine tour of Sion!Try cepage very different from the french wines.
Sunday Brunch.
A grand Sunday Brunch at Guarda Golf. A sumptuous spread with a great view. Reserve way in advance. There is also a spa and brunch retreat for 150CHF. A real treat.
Summer in Vercorin
Across the valley in Crans Montana, there is a beach club with a live band that plays at 3 pm every Sunday. Of course there is another type of skiing, wake boarding just next to it. Or if you prefer , beach volleyball and a large kids’ playground.
Raclette in a Château
Chateau de villa is about a twenty to thirty minute drive away. It’s is renown for serving raclettes from different regions in Switzerland from the same species of cows which truly proves “ You are what you eat” because the cheeses do taste so different. It is a raclette dégustation of 5 or 7 types depending on how hungry you are!
Vercorin and Parapente in summer and winter
The Val d'Anniviers and Vercorin in particular is one of the most popular sites in Valais for lovers of Paragliding because of the quality of the site and the winds.
Pilots will enjoy the 1,800 m of altitude difference at the start of the Crêt-du-Midi (2,336 m) accessible by ski lifts to enjoy one of the longest gliding flights in the Alps.
As for experienced pilots, the Val d'Anniviers and the Val d'Hérens (Vercofly area) are within reach of strong thermals that will often propel them to over 4,000 m.
Twist Air is the name!
Free shuttle to ski station from La Cove des Alpes.
Such convenience. Come out of chalet, turn Right” and one minute walk away is the shuttle /navette. Check the schedule, it comes regularly (swiss timing).
Lac De Moiry
A restaurant with the best croute au fromage, Restaurant De Moiry and a great view of the Barrage and Lac Moiry. Pascal normally cycles there from Cove Chalet and we take a scenic drive that takes 25 min and we meet there. For those of you who likes hikes , you will love this place. The glaciers are melting and it does sadden me each time I go.
Crans Montana 20 min away
Across the valley is the famous Crans Montana where you get your Louis Vuitton fix, great skiing in winter and golf in the summer.
Fancy a fancy restaurant?
20 min drive a away, Pas de L’ours. Both the fancy restaurant and more casual dining worth a visit. What a beautiful place.
Lavioz- Beginners ski station, ice hockey rink, playground and cafe
Five minute drive or 20 min walk from Cove, Lavioz, this is where the beginners lessons are. New year’s eve with the ski instructors coming down the slopes with torches is really memorable. Ecole de ski is also a five min drive and 15 min walk away from Cove.
