Your Complete Guide to One of Switzerland's Sunniest Ski Resorts

Skiing in Crans-Montana

Few ski resorts combine spectacular mountain scenery, reliable snow and abundant sunshine quite like Crans-Montana. Perched on a sunny plateau overlooking the Rhône Valley, this iconic Swiss resort offers over 140 kilometres of ski slopes, breathtaking views stretching from the Matterhorn to Mont Blanc, and a relaxed alpine atmosphere that appeals to families, couples and experienced skiers alike.

Whether you're planning your first ski holiday or returning to the Swiss Alps for another unforgettable winter, Crans-Montana offers something for everyone.

Why Ski in Crans-Montana?

Crans-Montana has long been one of Switzerland's most celebrated ski destinations.

Unlike many high-alpine resorts tucked deep into narrow valleys, Crans-Montana enjoys a sunny south-facing position with magnificent panoramic views throughout the day. Wide pistes, modern lift systems and a lively mountain village make it one of the most enjoyable ski destinations in the Alps.

Highlights include:

  • Over 140 km of groomed ski runs

  • Modern gondolas and chairlifts

  • Stunning panoramic mountain views

  • Excellent snowmaking facilities

  • Family-friendly learning areas

  • Challenging runs for advanced skiers

  • A vibrant village with restaurants, cafés and luxury shopping

The Ski Area

The Crans-Montana ski area stretches from the village up to the Plaine Morte Glacier at nearly 3,000 metres.

The resort offers a wide variety of terrain suitable for every level of skier.

Beginner Skiers

New skiers will appreciate the gentle nursery slopes near the village and the excellent Swiss Ski School. Wide, forgiving pistes allow beginners to build confidence while enjoying incredible scenery.

Intermediate Skiers

Intermediate skiers will find endless cruising runs across the resort. Long blue and red pistes connect different sectors of the mountain, making it easy to spend an entire day exploring.

Advanced Skiers

Experienced skiers can enjoy steeper black runs, challenging mogul fields and exciting off-piste opportunities when conditions permit. The famous National piste, used for Alpine World Cup races, is one of the resort's highlights.

The Plaine Morte Glacier

One of Crans-Montana's unique features is the Plaine Morte Glacier.

At almost 3,000 metres above sea level, it offers spectacular panoramic views across the Alps and excellent snow conditions throughout much of the season. On clear days, visitors can admire some of Europe's most famous peaks while skiing high above the Rhône Valley.

More Than Just Skiing

Crans-Montana is much more than a ski resort.

Visitors can also enjoy:

  • Snowshoeing

  • Winter hiking

  • Cross-country skiing

  • Ice skating

  • Sledging

  • Luxury shopping

  • Wellness spas

  • Scenic mountain restaurants

The lively village atmosphere means there's always something to do after a day on the slopes.

Mountain Dining

One of the pleasures of skiing in Crans-Montana is stopping for lunch at a traditional mountain restaurant.

From cosy alpine chalets serving Swiss cheese fondue and rösti to stylish panoramic terraces overlooking the Alps, dining on the mountain is an experience in itself.

Many visitors spend as much time enjoying the food and scenery as they do skiing.

A Resort for Families

Families particularly appreciate Crans-Montana's relaxed atmosphere.

Children benefit from excellent ski schools, dedicated beginner areas and family-friendly activities throughout the winter season. Wide slopes and efficient lifts make it easy for families of different abilities to ski together.

Away from the pistes, children can enjoy ice skating, sledging and seasonal events in the village.

Après-Ski

Crans-Montana offers a sophisticated après-ski scene.

Rather than loud party venues, visitors can relax with cocktails on sunny terraces, enjoy fine dining, visit cosy wine bars or simply stroll through the elegant village after a day on the mountain.

It is an ideal destination for travellers seeking both adventure and refinement.

Stay at Cove Crans-Montana

Located in one of the resort's most convenient neighbourhoods, Cove Crans-Montana provides the perfect base for exploring the mountains.

After a day skiing, return to a spacious private apartment where you can relax with family and friends before heading into the village for dinner or enjoying a quiet evening overlooking the Alps.

Our Curator's Tip
